Fictional revolutionaries? Cyndi Lauper? Wyclef's new mixtape seems like one of the better projects getting pushed out by labels before the end of the year. To kill time between albums 'Clef is teaming up with DJ Drama to release a mixtape called Toussaint St. Jean. Drama has become one of the preeminent mixtape DJs, piecing together unofficial releases for just about every heavy hitter in the game, while Wyclef is indulging his artistic side after selling 31 million records over the years.
The record will be steeped in Haitian sounds and history, with Drama coming in to add the gritty mixes and voiceovers that have become his signature. The album's title, Toussaint St. Jean, is a character loosely based on an 18th-century Haitian revolutionary named Toussaint L'Ouverture. Featured on the album will be an eclectic tour de force that includes Cyndi Lauper, Timbaland, Eve and Lil Kim.
The record is set to drop on November 10th.
Impressive! Quite an undertaking for a 'side project'. Some stand-out collaborations including the absurd duo of Wyclef & Lauper on the infectious "Slumdog Millionaire".
